Information Visualization Research is affiliated with the Infolab and the 3dLab in AT&T Labs. The Infolab is an interdisciplinary project toward the understanding of large-scale data, that brings together specialists in computer science, statistics, scalable software systems, and domain experts in communication services and networking. The 3dLab explores the integration of computer graphics with video digital signal processing.

Key resources include:

  • Colleagues who are experts in data mining, algorithms, statistics, software systems, Internet engineering and measurement, web services, content distribution, video, software and systems.
  • Terabytes of data including feeds from internal networks and services, and publicly available libraries.
  • Computing resources, including a 768-core multicluster, a graphics cluster, several large SMPs and two Powerwall displays.

The AT&T Shannon Laboratory in Florham Park has extensive technical facilities, including a research library, a video production studio, and caffeine-delivery equipment.

We interact with other nearby labs, including Bell Labs, Princeton University, Rutgers University, Columbia University, New York University, University of Pennsylvania, and Drexel University. We are members of the DIMACS consortium, which combines the discrete math and computer science talents of various New Jersey-based research organizations, and have industrial affiliate relationships with the Princeton and Stanford computer science departments.

We have a strong summer postgraduate intern program. Qualified candidates are invited to apply (usually from November through February) - - click here.
