UWIN-BASE ( 8U ) UWIN ADMINISTRATIVE COMMANDSUWIN-BASE ( 8U )

NAME

uwin-base - base UWIN binary installation sear

SYNOPSIS

uwin-base [ options ] [ name[=value] ... ] package release version

DESCRIPTION

uwin-base.YYYY-MM-DD.win32.i386.exe and uwin-base.YYYY-MM-DD.win32.i386.exe-64 are UWIN binary installataion sears for 32 and 64 bit uwin-base version YYYY-MM-DD. A sear is a self-extracting archive windows executable. See sear(1) for details on sear generation and execution. uwin-base sears are generated with --command=phase1.sh which means the ksh(1) script phase1.sh controls the installation. Only sear member files that have changed since the last installation are updated, so installing a sear over a previous installation may take much less time than the initial installation.

NOTE!!! uwin-base is a required UWIN package and must be installed first for the initial UWIN install and subsequent updates. Installing uwin-base kills all UWIN processes. Make sure all UWIN related processing for all users is complete before executing the sear.

Option operands to the sear executable are ratz(1) options. Operands after any options are name[=value] passed to phase1.sh. If authorize or defaults are specified then the installation is non-interactive, otherwise a typical windows point and click installation dialogue is entered. The operand -- must separate any name[=value] operands from the package operand.

phase1.sh collects the name[=value] operands and executes in a temporary UWIN environment that is distinct from any other UWIN instance. phase1 stops all other UWIN instances, and upacks the sear into the new UWIN instance. It then passes control to phase2 which executes in the new UWIN instance and re-starts the UWIN master service.

Files currently open or in use by any process in windows (e.g., .dll and .exe files) cannot be modified in any way. The phase1 => phase2 dance ensures that UWIN installation files are not in use by any other UWIN processes.
