Edith Cohen, AT&T Research

Research Interests

My primary research interests are the design, analysis, experimental performance evaluation, and applications of algorithms. I design efficient algorithms for networking, information retrieval, data mining, and general combinatorial optimization problems. I have a particular interest in understanding, analysing, and optimizing phenomena and performance issues that arise in large networks and massive information systems, including the Internet, WWW, p2p networking, and sensor networks.

Professional Background

I attended Tel Aviv University (Israel) for my undergraduate studies in math, physics, and computer science, graduating in 1985. I recieved my Masters degree in computer science from Tel Aviv University in 1986, (School of Mathematical Sciences at Tel Aviv University) and a Ph.D. in computer science from Stanford University in 1991. I joined the research staff of AT&T Bell Laboratories in 1991. As a result of the split of AT&T, the research arm of AT&T was renamed AT&T Labs Research, I am currently a member of the Algorithms Research Department at AT&T Research . On the spring semester of 1997, I visited the Computer Science Division at UC Berkeley. My visit was supported by an NSF grant. During my visit I taught a graduate class titled "Combinatorial Algorithms and Data Structures".
