    2004

  • Modeling Distances in Large-Scale Networks by Matrix Factorization
  • by Yun Mao and Lawrence K. Saul.
In Proceedings of ACM SIGCOMM/USENIX Internet Measurement Conference (IMC'04), pp 278-287, Taormina, Sicily, Italy, Oct 2004.
[abstract/bibtex, paper, slides, Matlab code, citations]
This paper talks about how to use matrix factorization (linear dimensionality reduction) to represent and predict network distances. Comparing to the "network coordinates", this model is more accurate and flexible, in the sense that it can represent distances that violate triangle inequality or symmetric properties.

    2003

  • DHARMA: Distributed Home Agent for Robust Mobile Access
  • by Yun Mao, Willem deBruijn, Bjorn Knutsson, Honghui Lu and Jonathan M. Smith.
19th ACM Symposium on Operating Systems Principles (SOSP 2003), WIP Session, Bolton Landing, NY, USA, Oct 2003.

  • by Peng Li, Yun Mao, and Steve Zdancewic.
In Proceedings of the First Workshop on Formal Aspects in Security and Trust (FAST), Pisa, Italy, Sept 2003.
    [abstract/bibtex, paper]
This paper revisits the integrity definition and relative mechanisms, and breaks a common belief that integrity is the dual of confidentiality. It also offers some insight on enforcing availability policies, which is less studied in formal security community.
